Planning & Listed Building Consent Granted

TEMPLE DINSLEY PARK

Sixty-eight acres of Hertfordshire parkland.
Sixty-nine extraordinary homes.

An estate steeped in history.

Temple Dinsley Park is a 68.7-acre Grade II* listed estate in the affluent village of Preston, Hertfordshire, formerly Princess Helena College for Girls, which closed in 2021. Planning permission and Listed Building Consent have been granted for 69 private residential dwellings: a combination of apartments within the historic manor and it’s outbuildings, and new homes set within the wider grounds and parkland.

London King’s Cross in 35 minutes from Hitchin station, only four miles from the estate.

Complimented by Sir Edward Lutyens, with Gardens by Gertrude Jekyll.

Temple Dinsley Manor carries Grade II* listing — a designation reserved for buildings of exceptional architectural and historic interest, accounting for fewer than two per cent of all listed buildings in England. The manor was extended in the early twentieth century by Sir Edwin Lutyens, with associated gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll. Two names that require no further context.

With roots stretching back to a grant from the Knights Templar in 1147, the estate has been shaped by some of England's most consequential figures. Its character is irreplaceable. Our responsibility is to honour it.

The most considered scheme we have ever brought to a site.

The consented scheme converts the Grade II* manor into 45 lateral apartments, repurposes the teaching block into a further 8 homes, and introduces a carefully designed collection of new houses set within the grounds, each named for figures from the estate’s own history. The listed gardens will be restored. The parkland returned to its historic character.

“This is without a doubt the most comprehensive and sympathetic set of proposals I think I’ve ever seen. There is no doubt this is going to be a huge benefit to the community. This is an excellent proposal.”

“This really is a great model. You should really be very proud of the work. Any applicant or agent doing business in this area should take note of what was presented this evening and the engagement that’s been done on this.”
